According to certain sources, the incidence of childhood and teen obesity has more than tripled over the past three decades with over 19% of children from 6 to 11 being obese and more than 18% of teens falling into the same category.
This is due to a number of factors but most importantly due to a poor diet and a highly sedentary lifestyle. The problem is that childhood obesity not only has an impact in the present but it can also lead to an increased likelihood of the child suffering from cardiovascular disease and other issues once they reach adulthood.
However, it seems that no one is taking these numbers seriously as schools are not providing children with the right information nor does their curriculum include sufficient physical activity and proper nutrition. This makes it extremely difficult for parents to provide their children with a balanced diet, especially since they often have little time in the mornings to prepare lunch.
