Queensland was hit by severe flooding this summer and the damage has extended beyond the natural disaster itself. Many have changed their plans and are no longer considering the tourist destinations in this state due to the misconception that all areas were affected and now lie in ruins. Nothing could be farther from the truth, with areas like the Gold Coast being unaffected and open for business.
In an effort to show people that these destinations are open to tourists, the federal government and the government of Queensland are working on a $10 million marketing campaign. However, operators in the area fear that it is not enough and much more will be required before the message gets across to the public loud and clear.
Many of the communities in these tourist destinations rely on tourism completely and they have been badly affected by the fact that bookings have dried up. There is some hope, though, that Easter will see at least a slight increase in the influx of tourists.
The Gold Coast is one of the areas that have been severely affected with almost all bookings drying up. Since the area was not affected at all by the natural disasters, it has been even tougher on the community as business disappearing completely was not expected. With a tourism industry generating $4.5 billion in revenues, it is clearly a severe blow to the area and the community.
As a result, many Gold Coast operators have launched their own marketing campaigns spanning all forms of advertisements, from TV to print, in an effort to let people know that the area is not only open but eager for the return of tourists.
Gold Coast tourism operators are doing everything they can to clear up the misconception regarding the state of this area, assuring all travelers that they can confidently book Gold Coast holidays as they will have the time of their lives.
