Creator and author Matt Stone reveals the myths and falsities behind many of today’s health recommendations and instead suggests other methods of maintaining a healthy body.

“I fully realize that most people might see 180 Degree Health and think I have no business running a health site,” Stone explains. “I created this ebook to explain to everyone how I arrived at my current conclusions, as well as to lay out my research methodology and inform readers of the conclusions it brought me to.”

The book first introduces the author and puts his interest in the topic of health in the context of his life. It then outlines how he arrived at his theory that slower metabolism and hence lower body temperature is largely responsible for many of the conditions suffered by people in most western countries today.

Throughout the next few sections, the author examines and tosses aside many theories attempting to account for the health problems of the western world, from too much fat to too much protein to a lack of carbohydrates. He demonstrates the contradictory nature of the various claims and provides data to refute each. The conclusion reached is that nutrition depends more on minerals, vitamins and amino acids than the amount of various compounds ingested by the body.

The author explains that the one food group that has constantly been shown to negatively impact the health of far-flung populations is refined carbohydrates, which are metabolically-stimulating carbohydrates without the substances needed for their proper metabolism. He then details how these carbohydrates encourage the onset of metabolic syndrome, examines its consequences and suggests ways to combat this condition by increasing the metabolic process.
